U.S. Security Updates
Before traveling to the US Airports, here is a sampling of the Security measures currently in place.
  • Arrive at least 3 hours before departure
  • Only Ticketed passengers allowed through security screening to go to the departure gates.
  • Ticketed passengers must provide proof of travel, such as; Ticket, i.e. boarding pass, e-ticket receipt, or Agency generated itinerary confirming e-ticketing information.
  • Government issued Picture I.D., if traveling internationally also provide a Valid Passport (Travel Document).
  • Never leave luggage or belongings unattended.
  • All Luggages must be checked at ticket counter only.
  • Please eliminate or minimize your carry on items.
  • All electronic devices are subject to X-Ray at security checkpoints. Cell Phones/Lap tops/pagers/personal assistances, etc.
  • Persons picking up arriving passengers may do so at the baggage claim areas.
  • Terminal parking is provided in designated areas only.
  • Knives or any sharp items will not be allowed through security checkpoints.
  • Airlines Security Guidelines
    Please note: Due to new federally mandated security procedures, airlines must now screen all checked luggage as well as carry-on luggage. Passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours prior to a domestic flight and three hours for international departures. Please check with your specific airlines concerning carry-on procedures and exact check-in-times.
    Also, any unattended vehicles left in front of the terminal building at San Francisco will be immediately cited and towed.
    The following guidelines are per the Federal Aviation Administration as of October 10, 2001.
    Allow extra time:
  • Arrive early. Heightened security measures increase the time needed to properly screen travelers. San Francisco Domestic/International travelers arrive at least two hours prior to a domestic flight and three hours for international departures.
  • Passengers traveling with young children, infants or person with disabilities may want to allow more time for check-in.
  • CHECK-IN
  • A government issued ID (federal, state, or local) is required. Travelers may be asked to show this ID at subsequent points, such as at the gate, along with their boarding passes.
  • Automated Check-in kiosks are available for airlines that have appropriate security measures in place. Travelers interested in this option should check with their airline.
  • E-ticket travelers should check with their airline to make sure they have proper documentation. Written confirmation, such as a letter from the airlines acknowledging the reservation, is required.
  • Only ticketed passengers are allowed beyond the screener checkpoints, except for those with specific medical or parental needs. Passes can be obtained from the airlines Check-in counters.
  • Each traveler will be limited to one carry-on bag and one personal bag (i.e., purse or briefcase).
  • All electronic items, such as laptops and cell phones, may be subjected to additional screening. Be prepared to remove your laptop from its travel case so that both can be X-rayed separately.
  • Travelers should remove all metal objects prior to passing through the metal detectors in order to facilitate the screening process.
  • ITEMS PROHIBITED FROM AIRCRAFT CABINS
    The following items must be placed in, or transported as, checked baggage or risk confiscation.
  • Knives of any length, composition or description
  • All cutting and puncturing instruments of any kinds, including pocketknives, carpet knives, box cutters, any device with a folding or retractable blade, ice picks, straight razors, metal scissors and metal nail files
  • Corkscrews
  • Athletic equipment that can be used as a weapon, including baseball/softball bats, golf clubs, pool cues, ski poles and hockey sticks
  • Fireworks, such as signal flares, sparklers or other explosives.
  • Flammable liquids or solids, like fuel, paints and lighter refills.
  • Matches and lighters may only be carried on your person. However, "strike-anywhere" matched, lighters with flammable liquid reservoirs and lighter fluid are forbidden.
  • Household items, like drain-cleaners and solvents.
  • Pressure containers including spray cans, butane fuel, scuba tanks, propane tanks, Co2 cartridges and self-inflating rafts.
  • All weapons and firearms, ammunition, gunpowder, mace, tear gas or pepper spray.
  • Electric wheelchairs must be transported in accordance with airline requirements. The battery may need to be disconnected, removed and the terminals insulate dot prevent short circuits.
  • AT THE GATE:
  • Travelers must be prepared to present a valid photo identification card, along with their boarding pass.
  • Travelers and their bags may be subjected to additional screening
  • AT ALL TIMES:
  • Control all bags and personal items.
  • Do not accept packages from strangers.
  • Do not bring anything onboard for another person.
  • Report any unattended items in the airport or aircraft to the nearest airport or airlines personnel.
  • Do not joke about having a-bomb or firearm. Don't discuss terrorism, weapons, explosives or other treats while going through the security checkpoint. Security personnel are trained to consider these comments as real threats.
